KAUST – Digital Twinning of Chilled water, Potable water for Leak Detection and Monitoring System

Project Overview

Performed the role of design and technical consultant to the client for leak detection and monitoring system for Chilled water, Potable water by utilizing Digital Twinning. Study of employing Digital Twinning for Potable and Chilled Water distribution networks for leak detection and monitoring. Detailed design of chilled water monitoring and leak detection system by applying strategies like considering water flow meters of the building inlet and outlet, water flow meters in major zone branches in the supply and return and monitoring the water flow rate from the make-up water line. Evaluation of feasibility of utilizing LORAWAN for instruments in the remote valve boxes. Preparation of typical detailed drawing for the installation of flow meters and its connectivity to the SCADA system. Evaluation and Typical design of the system to be accessible by different locations in its own monitoring system through web client or BAC net compatibility. Study & Detailed design of Potable water network monitoring and leak detection system by comparing strategies of water balance between flow measurements in the different districts and utilizing Digital Twinning solutions. Consideration of utilization of software like WaterGEMS with WaterSight utilizing AI and big data processing capabilities to determine potential leak based on the historical flow profile data in comparison to the current fluctuations in the profile data and evaluation of the suitability to the KAUST system. Preparation of typical detailed design drawings of the flow meter at the site and the potential location of the pressure sensors and pressure gauges. Preparation of typical detailed drawing for the installation of flow meters and its connectivity to the SCADA system. Detailed design of Campus Lab Fit outs (LFO) monitoring and leak detection system by designing of Flood/spill sensors in campus for detecting any leak from all sources (Chilled water, potable water, raw sea water, drain backflow and seeping rain water) that could happen inside the laboratory spaces. All sensors are designed to integrate with ICAS via JACE WIFI controller or equivalent. 1. Preparation of High Level Cost Estimate 2. Preparation of project specifications 3.
